Every year as elves in the North Pole prepare toys and trinkets for kids around the world, we get to work building Santa’s Village across web and mobile. For four consecutive years, I worked alongside the talented folks at Google to concept and design new educational games, revamp Santa’s Village and Tracker, and launch the Android app.
Android App
2015–2018
For the month of December, before Santa takes off, kids can download the Santa Tracker app on Android. The app features games specifically made for Android that aren’t available on a normal browser experience. It was my role to design the app interface, work with Google developers on game design and UX/UI, test game mechanics, and design the tracker experience for Santa’s big day.
Elf Maker
2018
At the end of 2017, there were large discussions about diversity and inclusion within Santa’s village. We wanted to make sure we were representing the young and old, tall and short, light and dark, and everything in-between. In 2018, we were excited to let people create their own elf persona. I was responsible for designing the app experience on desktop and mobile.
Santa Canvas
2017
Santa’s Canvas is an app that lets users create their own masterpieces with elements from Santa’s village. Much like the popular game in the 90s, KidPix, every item even has its own sound. There are paint brushes, stickers, stamps, spray cans and silly pens you can only find in Santa’s Canvas. Users can make it snow for a little added delight, or cause a blizzard to start fresh. I was responsible for creating the desktop and mobile app from concept to completion including visual design, illustration, UX/UI, and art direction for sound design.
Penguin Dash
2016
Penguin Dash is simple – you’re a penguin collecting presents along an icy path. If you fall in the cold water, you have to begin again! On Desktop, users use their arrow keys to guide the penguin while on mobile, we utilize device tilt. I was responsible for character animations, illustration, game UX/UI, and level creation.
